On the Canarian islands high quality water is very valuable. There is a high demand on clean potable water but the available is very expensive. To use this greatest good for irrigation the greens for example is wasteful. At many places on the islands wastewater trickles in the underground without any treatment or flows into the ocean directly. This is one reason because the treatment-technologies which allows the reuse of the effluent get more and more in the focus of interest. However the reuse of wastewater requires a quality level which is higher than the European norm. |

To operate the constructed wetland electrician energy is necessary. A small pump-station takes the water from the septic tank outlet onto the wetland. However the vertical flow allows a compact construction of the reedbed, 18 m² were sufficient. After treatment the effluent is collected in a tank and is reused for irrigation the greens and the vine. ![]() Finca La Cucaracha, Tenerife [Exposé / Download] |
