Constructed Wetland Jleep-Camp

Kuwait 2006: The SDFC - Council of Ministers, Kuwait was looking for a technology to purify the wastewaters of their worker camps. The goal was to produce clear water which can be used for irrigation the greens.
400 people live and work in the Jleep-Camp. The water consumption is very different during the day. To get a system, which can buffer the hydraulic peaks and guarantee a high purification rate all the time, they decided to build a constructed wetland.

The construction works started in June 2008.

All the ingredients to built the total sewage plant were delivered by local suppliers.

Commissioning in october 2008.

June 2009:
The conception is to use the sewage plant and its surrounding area as a public park
Due to excellent purification of effluent water a continuous irrigation of the area is guaranteed.

The effluent of the wetlands covers the whole demand of water for irrigation the greens. The removal of total & fecal coliforms and Salmonella is more than 99,9%.
Only one local semi skilled worker is needed to take care of operation and maintenance.

The benchmarks for Kuwait to be matched have been:
COD 70 mg/l, TOC 10 mg/l, BOD 20 mg/l, NH-4 < 10 mg/l

Achieved results after 4 weeks in operation:
COD < 30 mg/l, BOD < 10 mg/l, NH-4 < 1 mg/l.

The running costs of O&M for the whole system is reduced to a minimum by using this natural kind of wastewater treatment plant. It demonstrates a valuable contribution for an economical and ecological environment protection.
