Hungary

The people in the surrounding countryside of the Balaton, the largest lake in Hungary, live on the tourism. A further reason to protect the area against contamination.

The designing of a sewage plant (constructed wetland) for a village called Egeraracsa (400 inhabitants) closed to the Kis-Balaton (Small Balaton with a connection to the Balaton) takes part to guarantee the high water quality.

The sensitive ecological balaton area requires a high effective treatment system (the benchmarks which are matched for the balaton area are comparable with the german sewage plant classification 5 = > 100.000 inhabitants). As a result the type “constructed wetland “ get the decision.

Two vertical flow reed beds are followed by two special P- N – elimination filter. A hygienisation unit keep the effluent below the benchmarks in every season.

The administration of the county has given the project free, the application of foundation is under construction.
