Project 1: Constructed Wetland HuaXin

HuaXin is a part of the metropolitan area of Shanghai. There is a net of Channels and streams due to the river Yangtse flowing into the sea.
In the center of the City Janisch & Schulz designed this on-site wastewater treatment plant, considering and using the existing bed of the channel.

Untreated sewage discharges in open channels throughout the urban areas. All this channels in the Yangtze River. This situation required an ecological and economical solution.

The pre-treatment based on a sepric tank in three chambers. In case of the scope it was necessary to use a small pump station to deliver the wastewater onto the reedbed filter. The ingredients of the filter are special types of local sand and gravel.

By settling the vertical flow constructed wetland into the channel we found a on-site solution, which guaranteed a sustainable kind of effective wastewater treatment and an appreciation of the life quality of the inhabitants.
The first construction period was designed for a daily load of 80 m³.
